Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist
Genre: Horror zombie fiction
Format: Audiobook

Published 2009
"Viktor had been very sad about their grandfather's death, but Flora had intuited that it was less the person he grieved for than the fact of death itself. Death meant that people actually disappeared. That everyone was going to disappear."
This is about zombiesthat come alive from a strange weather that causes a major electrical outage in stockholm. The plot focuses on the reactions of society and many conflicts that arise between swedish authorities and the relatives of the undead. The horror is less in the uncanny animation of corpse but in the realities of grief, loss, and our own inevitable morality. An important theme is the bond between mother and child. This was a different take on the zombie horror genre. The humans are trying to intergrate Zombies in social settings. I will say this book is weird because the zombies don't eat flesh and it is not graphic. An scientist is reasearching the Zombies. The ending of the book was sad and amazing at the same time. This novel also had some flaws in it. I rated this a 4 out 5 stars. The audiobook was very good and I loved the actor who performed the book.

This book is a fun read. I loved Kate who dresses up as a boy at the beginning of the novel. Kate is a strong female character who independent and she grew up being rough. My favorite character was Lil, who was an indian, who helps Kate. This book had two twists. The first twist was a surprise The second twist was a surprise awell but, it got resolved quickly. "As the vison faded, the past and present seemed to merge."
This book is about a girl named Chloe. Her Mother recently died and now chloe can see ghosts again. She has been able to see ghosts since she was a kid. There is this one ghost that follows her . His name is Alexader. They fall in love instantly. I don't know about you but I wouldn't be in a relationship with Alex. I did like the part with Carter. We get to experince the thing he did to Isobel. Who is a ghost as well. I like Chloe's brother and her grandmother, who was strange but, in a good way. Chloe and Alex and Isobel were bland characters and the story overall wasn't that good. Nobody died in the novel and their wasn't much action. I like the voice acting of the audiobook and the twist, which was horriflying. But most of the story was confusing and their was nothing happening. I rated this book a 2.5 stars. There was know horriflying feature and it was boring.

"I have great honor," The Giver said. "So will you. But you will find that is not the same as power."
This is a coming of age story about a boy named Jonas. Jones is 12 years old and on his birthday he gets a job. Jonas is chosen for something special and that is the reciver of memory. This book reminded me of 1984 except child friendly. I liked the characters of Jonas and the Giver. They were both strong characters. Jones was fighting for choice for the people and fought for emotion. This book people don't feel happy, sad, angry,or mad. There is no pain. Everyone is the same. There is also a baby boy that enters Jonas family life. His name is Gabrel. He becomes a key part of the story. I liked this book but it did make me sad and it left questions unaswered. For example, the birthmother, does she have sex with designated guys or does she become fertilized or implanted? Also Why do they call death being released and How did this way of life begin? This is a good dicussion book for a book club. I rated this a 4 out of 5 because I did enjoy this. I will continue with the series.

"Family. She hadn't realized it until now, but that's what the people on this ship were to her. At some point during this haphazard journey, she'd fallen in love with a bespectacled kleptomaniac, a star-crossed seducer and his displaced princess, and most of all, an infuriating blue blood who used to call her Rattail. She'd learned that home was a fuid thing, and whether on a planet, on a satellite, or on a rusted bucket of a ship, this crew was her home."

In order to do so, she ends up working for Doran, a rich and spoiled brat. One day Doran see her tatoos and attempts to throw her off his ship. Solara instead drugs Doran and enters another ship called the Banshee. I loved this book. It reminded me of Firefly and Farscape. Both of these shows are qurky and funny. I loved the I hate you, I love you, now change relationship betweem Doran and Solara. I loved the side characters. The captian who was part machine, the badass princess, the cook , and the thief. My favorite character was the thief,Remy, he stole everything including the princess's shaver. I loved Solara's character. She was a badass. My favorite scene was when she jumped out of her dress and landed in the jet naked next to Remy. I also loved the fighting scene between Doran and a space pirate and how Doran hit him in the balls. I highly recommend this book if you love pirates, space operas and comedy science fiction.

"With great power...comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later."
This is the last bookin the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. This book is all about Kronos and his attack on Mount Olympus, which is located in Empire State Building. Basically it is the end of the world. I liked this book. It was kinda sad. This book tells the backstory of Luke. He is kinda sad and lost. There were four deaths in this book. One at the beginning and three were close to the end . My favorite character was Rachel because she becomes an Oracle. My favorite scene is when Percy and Nico meet May (Luke's mom) and she thinks they both are Luke. It was funny and sad because you learn about May and how her visions hurt her. She can see through the mist too. This series id recommended for children twelve and up. It incorporates Greek mythology within the story. 4/5 stars

"Oh God! Dad, I love Abby. I love her. Don't ask me to shut her out. Just all the rest. And remember, the psychologist said I wasn't crazy. I'm just different" "No, Ben, he was being kind. You're just not quite right in the head. Not crazy. But, well, more than different. I'm worried about what it's leading to."
This is a coming of age about a boy named Ben. He starts seeing ghosts. He tells his friends and they start making fun of him and start calling him "Ghost Boy." He tell his mother and father about how he can hear his grandmother. His mother believes he has a special gift. His father is not so excepting and he ends up putting Ben in a milatary school. I loved the writing in this book. If I had read this in middle school. I wouldn't have understood it. The language is more mature. I liked that the parents were in the novel and that they talked about Ben's problems. There is a ghost girl in the book and she follows Ben. Ben develops feelings for her and they have a deep connection. I loved the twist at the end. It was sad and heartbreaking. This book has bulling, drugs and friendship and love (not romantice) I also loved the message of helping people and not judging who they are. I recommend this for teenagers 13 years old and above. It is a great read and very inspirational.

"I won't let your ignorance silence my pain."
This is a story that follows Zelie Adebola, who sets out on a task to restore magic in the country of Orisha. The novel introduces King Saran and his raids across Orisha. Before the raids, maji and K'osidan were always competing for power. King Saran killed all the maji, rid the lands of magic and silenced most of the prayers to the gods he did not recognize as his own. This novel takes place eleven years after the raids following Zelie, a diviner, one of magical blood. Chosen by the Gods,Zelie, Tzain and Amari are sent on a journey to collect three sacred artifacts and bring them to the Holy Temple. By completing this quest, magic will return. They must evade King Saran's forces and reach the Holy Temple before solstice. This book is told in three perspectives; Zelie, Amari and Inan. This book has action, romance, and of course magic. I loved the beginning. It hooked me into the story. My favorite character is Amari, because she develops courage thoughout the novel. There is a lot of deaths in the novel and a bunch of minor characters as well. My favorite part was when Amari notices her brother, Inan fighting on the wrong side of the battle. I loved the writing and descriptions. I wanted more development of the magic system. I also think the narrations are similar to each other. I wish the audiobook had three narrators instead of one. The narrator used the same voice for each character. I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars because I loved the writing.

I loved this book. It has been a while since I read this book. This is scary! Trisha encounters starvation, upset stomach, and animals. She learns how to pick berries and nuts and she eats a small fish. She also hallutionates Tom Gordon and has make believe conversations. I loved the use of baseball terms thoughout the story. The Eye of Jade by Diane Wei Liang

Published February 1st 2008
"The Mayas used jade as a weapon because it's a strong stone, stronger than steel. But in China, white jade is more valuable, it's called the stone of Heaven."
This book is about a young woman named Mei Wang. Mei is a private investigator. Mei's family friend "Uncle" Chen hires her to find a Han dynasty jade. The hunt for the eye of jade leads Mei through banquet halls and black alleys, seedy gambling dens and cheap noodle bars near the forbidden city. This book was not what I was expectiong. This book was more of a family drama then a mystery. The mystery came at 33% of the novel. There is a lot of background information about Mei's love life in collage and her relationship with her mother. The novel goes back and forth between her life and the mystery. The mystery also was not as interesting and dealt with the history of Beijing. This book had really good writing. I gave this a 3/5 stars.

"In our imost and secret heart, which you ask use to bare to you, we wish to banish tem as we were banished, to a cold and lonely house. In the charge of a man who hated us.And we wish them trapped there as we were traped." "You consider that unjust Serenity?" "We consider it cruel," Maia said "And we do not think that cruelty is ever just."
This book is about a boy named Maia, who is the son of the emperor. He unexpectedly ascends to the throne after his father and half brother are killed in an airship crash. This book had political intrige and social intrige. I didn't really like this book because of the main character, Maia, didn't do anything. He was seculded and sheltered and he had no clue on how to be an emperor. There is a mystery to who killed Maia father and brothers. The mystery was my favorite part. I listen to this on audible and the performace was good. I also had a hard time following the story.

If she dies, she takes the truth with her.
This is about a girl named Sadie, who is looking for Mattie's (her sister) killer. This book has adult context in it. Drinking, drugs and sex. It has pedapella in it and child abuse. This book is told in 2 perspectives. The first is a podcast called "The Girls." West McCray is the narrator/ Interviewer and he is trying to find sadie, the girl who has been missing 3 mouth ago. The other perspective is Sadie. Sadie is a sad, abused girl ans her goal is to find Darren, who she believe killed Mattie. Sadie is also an unlikeable character and an unreliable narrator as well. I loved this book! It was an emotional roller coster. My favorite part was when sadie finds Darran's fake IDs and his trophies. Her name is amoung them. I also loved the ending. You don't know that Sadie is alive or dead. My favorite Character would be Sadie. She is defendly broken and she also stutters, which was a fun twist. Sadie is Judged by everyone and she is abused by her mom's boyfriends and she is ingnored by her mom. SHe also has strenthand she doesn't give up easily. I recommend this for ages 17 and above.
